Multimillionaire's divorce takes a violent turn

When going through a divorce, emotions are often intense and raw in nature. This can be especially true in cases where couples have a considerable amount of wealth and assets over which arguments ensue. The high asset divorce between a former New York City financial vice president and his wife of 16 years, recently took an ugly turn.

The couple's 14-year-old daughter recently sat before a judge sobbing as she detailed the day her parents' fight over an iPhone turned violent. According to the girl's testimony, in a hostile move, he father had recently moved back into the family's $6.5 million dollar New York City apartment.

Upon arguing in front of their three children, the girl's 50-year-old father revealed to his estranged wife that he had recorded her comments on his iPhone. As her mother grabbed for the phone, the girl relayed how the fight turned violent and escalated into her father hitting, kicking and screaming at her mother.

The fight between the two warring spouses ended as the girl's mother escaped to a bedroom, shut the door and called police. The girl's father was subsequently arrested and a restraining order against him was filed.

This case is a sad reminder of why violence is never an appropriate response when dealing with an estranged or ex-spouse. In this case, it's likely the man will not only be forced to pay financially for his violent acts, but he's also alienated his daughter who has since refused to see or speak with him.

New York City residents going through a difficult and emotionally charged divorce would be wise to retain legal counsel and take appropriate measures to ensure for their safety and that of their loved ones. A divorce attorney can help secure a protective or restraining order and also provide advice on how to proceed with the divorce process.
