Details of prenuptial agreement emerge in Kardashian and Odom divorce

Whether you love or loathe them, it's hard to escape news about the latest dramas involving the Kardashian family. Most recently, news broke that Khloe Kardashian has filed for divorce from her husband of four years, NBA player Lamar Odom.

Speculation of the couple's impending divorce has been swirling for months as allegations of rampant drug abuse and infidelity on Odom's part hit the gossip columns. Now, details are emerging of how a possible divorce settlement between the famous individuals may shake out. At the center of reports are details related to the couple's reported air-tight prenuptial agreement.

Given her familial ties and lucrative television and product deals, New York residents may be surprised to learn that it's actually Odom, and not Kardashian, who was the breadwinner. In fact, Odom is worth an estimated $100 million dollars whereas Kardashian's net worth is estimated to be around $18 million.

Given the amount of wealth and assets involved, it's possible the divorce between the couple could be contentious and drawn out. News outlets report, however, that the couple signed a prenuptial agreement prior to marrying which serves to keep those assets brought by each to the marriage separate.

Early reports indicate that Kardashian will retain ownership of the couple's home which is estimated to be worth $4 million dollars. Additionally, under the terms of the prenuptial agreement, she is entitled to receive $500,000 for each year the couple was married and will remain the sole beneficiary to a $10 million dollar life insurance policy.

Some wealthy and famous individuals also ensure a prenuptial agreement includes a confidentiality clause which prevents an ex-spouse from revealing personal information. It's unclear, however, whether the couple's prenuptial agreement contained such a clause.

We'll continue to report on matters related to this high asset divorce as they develop. While most New York residents don't have the amount of assets or fame as Kardashian and Odom, a prenuptial agreement can serve to protect and benefit all individuals. For those couples seeking advice related to a prenuptial agreement, a divorce attorney can answer questions and provide advice and insight on how best to proceed.
