How can I survive a divorce and feel good about myself?

This might seem like a strange question to ask an attorney, but attorneys are in a unique position to witness the many facets of divorce—even those that affect people internally. It is a good question as the role many divorce attorneys fill includes providing personal support throughout the process. Naturally, there is no one, all-encompassing answer to the question, but a good first step is using the following tips as a guide to divorcing with your self-esteem intact.

Don't Put Yourself on the Back Burner: Divorce is a monumental upheaval of nearly every aspect of your life. It would be easy to develop a sense of fatalism and begin to let your personal appearance and your overall wellbeing slip to the back burner. Watching your health, your diet and your personal appearance will have a positive effect on how you feel inside and outside.

Let Go of Unnecessary Worry: No matter how hard you try, you will not be able to solve every divorce issue that arises. The best you can do for your self-esteem and your loved ones is to take each problem as they come and do your best to work things out. Undue worry and stress will affect the way you feel spiritually and emotionally so it is best to pick and choose what to fret about.

Find Good Employment: If you do not already have a good job, make this one of your main areas of focus. Solving any financial issues arising from divorce is one of the most powerful feel-good tonics in the world. You could even try to take some classes to boost your skill levels within the workforce.

These few tips are just the beginning of your self-healing process. Throughout your divorce, do not hesitate to ask your New York attorney any questions that might further allay your fears and help you understand what to expect with your divorce.
