Madonna's son refusing to return to the States

Being the son of an international pop-star certainly has its perks, but there are downsides, too, as one teen is currently experiencing.

Rocco Ritchie, the 15-year-old son of Madonna and former husband Guy Ritchie, defied his mother's orders to return from his father's London home to spend Christmas with his mom and siblings at their townhouse in Manhattan.

This act of rebellion caused Madonna to take legal action in order to force her son to return to the States. Appearing last week in Manhattan Supreme Court, Madonna's attorney argued that the custody dispute should be settled in New York, where Madonna resides and where the couple's divorce was adjudicated in 2009.

The judge ordered the teen to return to New York, but opposing counsel stated Rocco would not voluntarily come back to the States and preferred to continue living in the UK with his dad, step-mom and half-siblings.

One insider told The New York Post that it was likely Rocco would defy the judge's order and stay in London, saying, "This is a 15½-year-old strapping young kid, so we'll see."

The teen had been touring with his mother around the world with her Rebel Heart tour, and the two reportedly had clashed.

A pending legal proceeding in London has also been filed by an attorney for Rocco. The New York judge said the teen would have a court-appointed lawyer in the Manhattan custody case, and Rocco could express his preference of where he wants to live to the judge.

Judges frequently give a great deal of weight to older children's and teen's preferences in custodial disputes, but ultimately their decisions are based on what is in the minor's best interests.
