Katie Holmes enjoys life in NYC after divorce

A marital split involving high assets can be especially challenging for the divorcing parties. The process can involve squabbles over assets and create much strife as a family divides, as well as cause confusion and frustration in children. But New Yorkers going this kind of divorce are encouraged not to lose heart. After the process is finished, the future begins.

It may be an easy example, but consider Katie Holmes. She has settled down in New York City after her divorce from Tom Cruise. The much-publicized split became a media sensation as she and Cruise struggled to reconcile everything from the division of assets to child custody and the raising of their young daughter.

Holmes has turned to stage work, and will be appearing in an upcoming Broadway production this winter. Observers throughout the country have praised the 33-year-old actress for keeping a classy demeanor throughout the proceedings, and for working with Cruise in the best interests of their 6-year-old daughter. Most notably, the actress and her former partner were able to settle things in a civil fashion in under three months.

In other cases, a high-asset divorce can take months or even years to complete. The division of assets often becomes the focus of the proceedings and may trump other concerns. Celebrities and other people with a high net worth need to be aware of their legal options for protecting assets and coming to a truly fair and equitable resolution.
