New York Yankees partner in bitter divorce battle

Many divorces are contentious, but some can be downright acrimonious, especially when significant amounts of money are involved. When dealing with a high net worth divorce, many people will go to great lengths to ensure that they get their fair share.

Orin Wilf, a minority owner of the New York Yankees, is embroiled in a bitter divorce battle with his wife. The Manhattan couple, who have two sons together, separated a year ago, after a 12-year marriage. The two have yet to settle on how the finances will be split. Wilf, a real estate developer, is no stranger to money. His family owns the Minnesota Vikings.

An unnamed source reports that 39-year-old Wilf had a serious gambling habit. It is alleged that he spent more than $20 million on gambling at casinos in Atlantic City and the Bahamas, among other places. Wilf is said to have received help for his gambling addiction and has been able to avoid gambling for the past two years.

A typical divorce can be difficult enough, but when individuals who are in the public eye get involved in messy splits, the already touchy issues can escalate. Anyone involved in a high-asset divorce should be aware of the relevant state laws to ensure that any property division is equitable. The legal system should be able to see through any mudslinging on behalf of either of the parties involved and look at the divorce legal issues from an objective point of view.
