Usher's ex-wife seeks child custody following son's near drowning

Parents who divorce are forever tied to one another. While many divorced parents are able to set aside personal differences and come together for the sake of shared children, others continue to wage legal disputes and fight over the custody of shared children for years. Such is the case in the divorce of well-known singer and television personality Usher Raymond.

Known for his smooth voice and even smoother dance moves, Usher Raymond, or Usher as he's best known, has made headlines in recent years related to the bitter divorce and child custody battle with ex-wife Tameka Foster Raymond.

The couple, who wed in 2007 and divorced two years later, have two sons together. Previously, a family law judge awarded Usher primary custody of the couple's children. The reasons behind this somewhat surprising decision were never made public, but the issue of child custody has remained a point of contention between the ex-spouses.

A recent accident at the singer's home only served to fuel an already raging dispute and resulted in Tameka Raymond requesting an emergency custody hearing. While details related to the accident are still forthcoming, initial reports suggest that one of the couple's children, five-year-old Usher Raymond V, somehow fell into a swimming pool at the singer's home. The child then sunk to the bottom of the pool where he became trapped in a drain.

Thankfully, an employee who was working at the singer's house was able to free and rescue the young boy. He was reportedly breathing and alert upon being taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The young boy is currently being treated for his injuries and monitored by a medical team.

A day after the horrific accident occurred, the boy's mother requested an emergency custody hearing. Tameka Raymond contends the children are often left in the care of nannies while her ex-husband travels and that she, as their mother, should be allowed to care for the young boys.
