Richard Gere's 11-year marriage comes to an end

Richard Gere and his wife of 11 years, Carey Lowell, recently announced their plans to divorce. The couple has been together since 1995, meeting shortly after Gere's first divorce from supermodel Cindy Crawford. While there has been no official confirmation on what factors may have led to the famous couple's divorce, many speculate lifestyle differences may be to blame.

64-year-old Gere is known for enjoying a more simple and quiet lifestyle while 52-year-old Lowell enjoys socializing and being in the spotlight. While Lowell briefly enjoyed her own big-screen success when staring as a Bond girl opposite actor Timothy Dalton in the 1989 movie License To Thrill, Gere has enjoyed a long and successful career as an actor.

It's reported that Gere is worth an estimated 45 million dollars. The couple also owns a sprawling 12,000 square foot mansion that is reportedly worth $65 million dollars. It's also likely that the couple has other properties as well as numerous valuable assets.

Gere famously boasted about his love for Lowell after revealing that the couple had secretly wed in 2002. The marriage was the second for Gere and the third for Lowell who has a daughter with her second ex-husband. Gere and Lowell also have a 13-year-old son together. It's unclear whether the couple had a prenuptial agreement prior to getting married.

While it's possible that the divorce between Gere and Lowell will be amicable and quick, some speculate otherwise. Barring the existence of a prenuptial agreement, high asset divorces are typically contentious and lengthy. Additionally, the couple may engage in a custody battle over their 13-year-old son.
