Eliot Spitzer's ex-wife likely to profit handsomely from divorce

New York residents probably weren't surprised to learn of the recent divorce filing between Eliot Spitzer and his wife Silda Wall Spitzer. While the two were married for more than 26 years and have three grown children together, their marriage has been plagued by scandal.

In 2008, the then New York Gov. Spitzer was the subject of both legal and public debate when his involvement in a prostitution ring was revealed. At that time, his wife dutifully stood beside her husband as he apologized to his constituents for his digressions and poor judgment. Since that time, the couple's marriage has reportedly been on the rocks and, to many; the recent divorce petition seems long overdue.

In an attempt to keep the divorce private, the couple's divorce petition was filed under Anonymous vs. Anonymous. A divorce settlement deal between the two has apparently already been finalized and while the details of that settlement remain unknown, it's likely that Wall stands to profit handsomely.

On his own, Spitzer is reportedly worth an estimated $50 million. Additionally, Spitzer likely stands to profit from his father's successful real estate business which is estimated to be worth $1 billon. In addition to liquid assets, the couple owns a luxury apartment on Fifth Ave. in New York City and an estate in upstate New York reported to be worth $4 million.

Any divorce can be complex and contentious. This is often particularly the case when factors such as infidelity and a considerable amount of wealth are involved. Wealthy individuals often have a unique set of concerns and would therefore be wise to enlist the assistance of a divorce attorney who has experience handling high asset divorces.
