Jon Gosselin vows to file for primary custody of sextuplets

Many New York residents may be familiar with the very public and contentious divorce and child custody battle between former spouses and reality television stars Jon and Kate Gosselin. The couple previously gained fame when their life as parents to eight children, twin girls and sextuplets, was chronicled on The Learning Channel's television reality serious Jon & Kate Plus 8.

Gone, however, are the days when the married couple and parents of eight could be seen struggling to with how to get all children dressed and out the door. Today, the two are best known for their bitter divorce and ongoing disputes over child custody and child support.

Currently, Kate has primary custody of all eight children. Jon, however, recently vowed to file for primary custody of the sextuplets after seeing an interview Kate and the couple's 13-year-old twin girls participated in which was televised on a popular morning show.

However, Jon's fight for primary child custody will likely not be easy or inexpensive. The 36-year-old has struggled financially since his split from Kate and revealed his plans to obtain primary custody of his six children is on hold until he can come up with the necessary financial resources.

Both Jon and Kate have been publically critical of one another's parenting abilities with Jon most recently accusing Kate of being too controlling and restrictive with the children and allegedly spanking them when they misbehave.

Given the contentious nature of the former spouses' relationship and continued public scrutiny, it's likely the children are the ultimate losers in this situation. New York couples who are struggling with similar high conflict divorces and child custody or child support matters would be wise to consult with an attorney who can help find a favorable resolution that will serve to benefit both parent and child.
