Complex divorce ahead for hedge fund manager worth billions

A New York fund manager and his wife of 28 years have decided to call it quits. Although the pair has not yet formally filed the paperwork for their high asset divorce, insiders say that the couple hopes to end their marriage amicably and quickly. The man could end up paying a significant amount in the breakup, though; a minority owner in the Pittsburgh Steelers, his estimated net worth rings in at about $10 billion.

The man, a former executive at Goldman Sachs, has a reputation for wild success. He earned a $4.4 billion paycheck in 2012. He personally earned $3.5 billion in 2013 alone. Needless to say, with that much spending money, the man and his wife accumulated a significant number of high-value assets that will need to be divided during the divorce. The man's career was launched by a massive 2009 trade that earned his company a whopping $7.5 billion and a personal paycheck of $4 billion.

The pair not only share a mansion in New Jersey, but they also own an oceanfront estate valued at $43.5 in the Hamptons. It is not clear whether they own any other homes. Property and assets that will be considered in the split could include the man's share in the professional football team; news reports have yet to speculate about that situation.

Couples with such massive holdings obviously need legal support throughout the breakup process. Real estate and other assets may be difficult to divide, especially when a couple has such a large amount of marital property. In that instance, the divorce can easily become complicated, even though both parties may be willing to cooperate. A strong legal support staff may help couples navigate high asset divorce with more confidence, ensuring that each person gets a fair share of the marital property.
