How to tell the kids Mom and Dad are divorcing

One of the most difficult aspects of divorce is telling the children that their parents are splitting up. While even adult children are affected by their parents' divorce, young children, adolescents and teens usually have the most problems accepting the "new normal." Below are some guidelines for the best way to break it to the kids.

Terms of child custody with a special needs child

Some New York spouses are unhappy in marriage but remain together for reasons other than the way they feel. You've probably known or heard about couples who stay married for religious purposes, financial reasons or to tough it out "for the kids," particularly when a child has a physical, emotional or mental disability.

Bobby Flay files for divorce from wife amidst cheating rumors

Another celebrity divorce is beginning to get nasty in the New York courts. Bobby Flay, celebrity chef, and Stephanie March, a star on "Law and Order: SVU," are in the midst of a contentious split since Flay recently filed a petition for divorce. They two married in 2005 and never had children.

What rights do unmarried dads have over their child's paternity?

Traditionally, fathers who were not married to the mothers of their children have had fewer rights concerning their children. However, this has changed a great deal over the last decade or so. Below are some of the legal rights of unmarried New York dads.

Judge okays Facebook as venue for serving divorce summons

It seems you can do everything online these days and apparently serving a divorce summons is no longer an exception. While this case is not typical, it might be a signal of things to come in the way people approach a divorce that has proven difficult to initiate.

Wealthy public relations exec and wife divorcing

A prominent New York City public relations magnate is facing a divorce initiated by his wife. The couple, Richard Edelman and Rosalind Walrath, has been married for 28 years. She formerly served as vice president at Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, an investment banking firm. Edelman is chief executive officer and president of the largest PR firm in the world. The company, which was founded by his father in 1952, has a net worth in the nine figures.
